Competence improvement in Swedish industrial dimensional metrology
Measurement technology and management of metrology data is receiving increased attention in the manufacturing industry. Simultaneously much of the industrial metrology staff with proper knowledge is approaching the age for retirement. If nothing is done, the metrology competence in the manufacturing industry will soon be gone.
SIMET is an attempt to prevent this loss of competence. It will be a national forum for industrial dimensional metrology people to interact and create a renewed interest in this area. SIMET will develop the necessary educational tools to improve education and raise the competence of individuals so they are prepared for the upcoming challenges of future industrial metrology. Through industrial enrolment the research agenda for future metrology will be highlighted and the need for improved funding of will be emphasized by joint pre-competitive research proposals as joint activities between industry and academy.
From Nov 2006 – Dec 2008 the project provided:
- A national member forum with web portal for information exchange of experiences and initiatives for joint activities, such as an annual industrial metrology conference. It will also act as an agency for master thesis work proposals, job offers and training.
- Perform an inventory of current educational material, and propose new educational modules adapted to today’s industrial metrology needs and forthcoming challenges. The new material will be prepared for e-learning.
- By the end of the project the first educational effort will be performed for metrology staff among the industry partners.
- A management group active in strategic planning for continuous support of joint metrology research projects and funding of the industrial metrology area.
- Results from two research projects with a joint problem statement from several partners, and active interaction with the MERA-projects ModArt, KUGG and Geometrisäkring.
The SIMET project is managed by an executive board representing
A large number of industry partners, instrument deliverers and educational organisations are expected to participate as paying SIMET members. |
